Mulch and pine straw installation in Charlotte
Mulch is the cheapest thing you can do for a bed and the easiest thing to do badly. Piled against a trunk it rots the bark; spread too thin it does nothing; dumped on top of weeds it feeds them. We re-cut the bed edge first, pull what is growing, and spread two to three inches by hand. Pine straw is the Carolina default and we like it for slopes and under pines; hardwood holds up better on flat beds near the house.

What it doesn't cover
- Dyed red mulch, which we do not carry; it fades to pink by July
- Rubber mulch and rock beds, which we will talk you out of
- Bed redesign or new plantings, though we are happy to quote them at the same time

Mulch or pine straw?
Pine straw for slopes, under pines and oaks, and big natural areas: it is lighter, cheaper and stays put on a grade. Hardwood mulch for foundation beds and anything near the front door: it looks tidier and lasts longer on flat ground.
How often should it be refreshed?
Once a year in spring for most beds, with a light top-up in fall if it has thinned. Every year is the Complete tier's default.
How much do I need?
One cubic yard covers about 100 square feet at three inches. We measure your beds on the walk-through and quote by the yard, spread.
Can you deliver without spreading?
We can, but most people find that the spreading is the part they did not want to do. Quote both and decide.
